Kirojo College Nakasongola Under New Management

Kirojo College Nakasongola is a private secondary school registered under the Ministry of Education and Sports in Uganda to offer both O’level and A’level education to learners who subscribe as boarders or day scholars. Situated in Nakasongola Town Council, the school is 3 km distant from the geometrical center of Uganda and we welcome learners (male and female) from all parts of the world. An ambiance of serenity characterizes the pedagogical infrastructure that is inter-spaced among the tropical woods spanning 20 acres, spacious and befitting the requirements for offering of diversified curricula.

The school was first envisioned by the late Dr. Kirabo Kyeyune Joseph Bounty in 1990, but it took two (him and the wife, Mrs. Kirabo Robinah Kyakuwa) to have the dream actualized in 2004. With only two students and four staff within a commercial building, it was a move of faith to have Kirojo College School flagged off, and only God made it possible to realize the school relocate to her current home where it has trained Africans now serving in key positions across the globe.

The COVID-19 pandemic was a seizure that sparked cessation of the school’s operation in 2020 following a lock-down announced by the head of the state. The dwindling student population would later face a series of misfortunes within the pandemic season: including but not limited to lightning fires (2020), death of the school director (Sunday, December 12th/ 2021), and resignation of the school head teacher (January, 2022). Whereas the long lock-down on schools had been lifted effective 2022, a somber mood testified the insufficiency to run the school with immediate effect. The dilapidated buildings required capital investment to have them rehabilitated, and the loyal staff had since sought alternatives for survival in the lock-down period. The school accounts were not accessible and it was presumed they were insufficient as well to formidably support a new start.

On June 09th, 2023 (Heroes’ Day), the school alumni (KIrojo COLlege Old Students Association, KICOLOSA) assembly was convened to among other errands celebrate the heroic service of the fallen director (Dr. Kirabo Joseph), to crystallize teamwork that would revamp the real home of quality education, elect the representative to the new school board of governors and to reminisce. A handful of old students pledged to financially support the school, to have it rejuvenated. Over 12.5 million (Uganda Shillings) realized in pledge that day would boost the humble monthly remittances the widow and orphans had committed to in their earlier meeting on March 12th, 2023.

The old students and family members agreed to have the school managed by an independent board of governors, which constitutes 12 members as provided for under the Education 2008. A few constituencies are yet to be filled, but apparently the board has Mr. Kulabako Robert as the Chairman, deputized by SP Kiwanuka Gerald, then Nnalongo Comfort Nazziwa (Ms.) is the school treasurer, Mr. Kyambadde Emmanuel Kawonawo (Acting Secretary) but a member upon appointment of a substantive school head, Mr. Kizito Andrew Nyombi, and Mr. Rwanga Newton Black the old students’ representative are members. The district education committee is yet to allocate a representative to the school board, likewise the town council leadership. As registration kicks off towards the reopening of the school in 2024, a parents’ meeting will be convened to elect two representatives and finally when recruitment/ staffing is concluded soon this year by the new board (steering committee), two staff representatives will be elected in their meeting.

Educounsel Business Limited now has the honorary mandate of overseeing that the responsible individuals/ committees adhere to the road map that will see Kirojo flags fly high, and higher again.
